Eternal Idol

The Greatest Story Never Told

Bluestonehenge Update

October 13, 2009 - 12:40 am

I’ve just heard from Alex Down, a regular contributor to Eternal Idol who attended a presentation given by Mike Parker Pearson in Devizes last Saturday.

Mike gave permission for what he had to say to be reproduced here, so Alex has been working hard on producing the best possible reproduction of Mike’s words. We had thought of publishing it in two parts, but it struck me that if we followed that route, there would be problems with any comments and contributions that others wished to make.

So, I’ve decided to publish Alex’s work in its entirety, which means that there’ll be a post of between 3,000 and 4,000 words going up in the next few days, barring minor disasters. I’ve posted pieces of similar length and detail in the past, because I’ve always wanted Eternal Idol to be home to original information on Stonehenge and occasionally, Silbury Hill, so there are times when a lengthy and detailed contribution is the only way to do the subject in question justice.

Be that as it may, I’ve had some comments complaining that the pieces are too long, so the choice is simple. If you wish to read the most detailed and accurate piece we can possibly provide, you can do so here in a few days time. If not, there are plenty of forums and picture postcard sites ‘out there’ that go out of their way to cater for those with a shorter attention span.

Alex has already told me some of what Mike had to say, but I’m sure that I’ll have to read it several times before it all sinks in, while I’m very much looking forward to reading it and taking part in the ‘animated discussions’ that will doubtless follow.
